It seems that you can no longer access Gap.com with Safari. Who, exactly, do they think shops at Gap.com? Firefox here I come....

British paper is reporting, and this is wholly plausible, that given links between international terrorist groups, IRA technology is showing up in Iraq. What they're also suggesting, and who can know how this could even be confirmed, is that the technology is the result of a British sting operation gone horribly wrong.

First, some lunch. Husband consulted his food guide and he seemed to know what he was doing so I continued reading my book (sent to me by my friend in Sydney, thanks Cath!). We ended up at the W W Laksa at Kampung Nong Chik. Thick laksa gravy made with more spice paste than dried shrimps was very lemak and packed plenty of oomph!, and there were generous bits of fried wonton skin and taupok to soak up all that gravy. The only critiscm was that I could not help wishing for a bit of tart kaffir lime juice to relieve the richness a little.

First, human rights are not just there for good, law abiding people. They are standards of basic humanity, a mark of civilised behaviour. A nation's level of civilisation is to be judged not by the way it treats the majority of its citizens but what it does to its minorities, its criminals, its troublemakers, its misfits.
Second, you cannot defend and promote a democratic system by taking away the very freedoms that made it a democracy in the first place. All that happens is that the country becomes unfree and unpleasant - and probably still unable to resolve the terrorism problem it started off with.

At 3.4% inflation is significant. All this talk about 'excluding petrol' is completely missing the point. Yes, oil is 15% off its peak, and may well fall further - or may not. The fact is: a price has risen without a corresponding increase in value. That is inflation. It may be that it happens to have been caused by factors outside our control - but that is also a common factor in this game.

In Sweden we have a set that a sinner always wake up late or something like that. If this is true it has to mean that I was very angel-like when I was out yesterday evening because I woke 5.30 am this morning and couldn't get to sleep again.

The Sinhala people make up 74.6% of the population, largely Buddhist. 17% made up by the Tamil people, who are 80% Hindu. There's big conflict between the two, which has resulted in around 100,000 deaths and 800,000 emigrations. It is claimed by some to be the site of the Garden of Eden. The war has destroyed the economy, with foreign investment and tourism greatly reduced.

I completed these 4 small pictures last week. They are based on the memory of particular places, weather and light condidtions. Looking at them together its interesting to note formal qualities that are similar; the high horizon, the composition that moves diagonally up from bottom right, and the strong vertical elements.

It seems Ted Kennedy was out along the beach at the Kennedy Compound over the weekend when he spotted some fishermen stranded by rising tides on a breakwater. He first called 911, then broke out his Boston Whaler (the irony here is delicious) and went out to rescue them. It turned out to be too treacherous for Senator Kennedy (D-Chivas), so he returned to the dock just as firefighters arrived, who used their own rescue boat to recover the fishermen.
